We are thrilled to share news about our affiliated school, Dream Beauty Academy, in Rwanda. Now you can read more information about the African cosmetology school and make donations to help educate more people through the school’s updated webpage at AfricaNewLife.org.
Academy of Hair Design co-founders Christie and David Gonzales started Dream Beauty Academy, which opened in 2012. Dream Beauty Academy is a non-profit school located in the city of Kigali in a community center called the Dream Center, and it began as a partnership between our sister cosmetology school in Missouri, and Portland, Oregon, based Africa New Life Ministries. Earlier this summer our Missouri sister school had a concert to help raise money for the Dream Beauty Academy.
In the Dream Center, there is a tailoring school, daycare, seminary, church and sponsorship office. The organization provides 6,000 students with supplies and meals for their families. Rwanda’s economy crumbled during the 1994 Rwandan Genocide and hasn’t fully recovered.
The Dream Beauty Academy provides essentially free cosmetology educations to women and is mostly funded through donations. The Gonzaleses are actively involved in the school and take trips to Rwanda to deliver new school supplies and meet and work with students.
The Gonzaleses are committed to growing Academy of Hair Design and BeVelle Barber School and their charitable ventures globally by building a network of schools in developing countries to empower people and give them hope. This global-minded strategy should attract strong faculty, students and salon clients who desire to make a difference in the world.
